A systematic set of mathematics worksheets will help you teach your child the basic principles of math and help them prepare for school. Worksheets can be used as the basis for counting and adding games and other activities. Teaching your child with worksheets also makes them more comfortable with doing worksheets - which will help them when they get to kindergarten and school, where worksheets are used every day.

Put down those boring worksheets! The best way to teach your preschooler to write is to use simple preschool writing activities that make learning fun. To be ready for kindergarten, your child needs to know how to cut and paste, copy simple shapes, trace vertical and horizontal lines, trace his or her name, and hold crayons, pencils and scissors correctly.

The next step is learning to write numbers, and this is where mathematics worksheets become almost a necessity. Unless you have great handwriting, lots of spare time and a fair amount of patience, writing worksheets will help you teach this valuable skill to your child. Quality vs Quantity. Some free worksheets are not good quality - the pictures are fuzzy, backgrounds print grey or speckled - and children tend to notice these things. If you are using the worksheets to educate your child, you may want to choose good quality worksheets that encourage your child to produce good quality work. After all, it's a little difficult to ask your child to color within the lines and work neatly when the worksheet they are filling in hasn't done the same. Quality may be a little more expensive, but good worksheets will motivate your child to produce neat work that they can be proud of.

Do not over do the activity though. Spend only a limited amount of time each day. It is important that kids enjoy the exercise otherwise they will soon start hating the entire learning process - and this is not good news. If your children have older siblings then you can get them to do their activity when the older ones are doing their school work. Do not stick to a rigid scheduled - going with the flow usually works for me. Some days they might not want to do any writing - and that is okay. May be do some painting or reading on these days. See how you child is on that day and adjust your teaching scheduled accordingly.

A step-by-step set of preschool worksheets will introduce new challenges to your child - skills and concepts they have not yet learnt. With your support and encouragement, your child will learn these new skills, achieve their goals, and gain confidence that will be vital when they start kindergarten or school. Starting 'big school' brings a lot of changes into a child's life, and your child needs to believe that he or she can face new challenges and cope well.
