Governments around the world are cutting education (and other) budgets. This affects preschoolers more than any other sector, as preschool is generally not considered part of the formal statutory schooling system. You may find yourself having to educate your child. With printable worksheets, this is not as difficult as it may sound.
Put down those boring worksheets! The best way to teach your preschooler to write is to use simple preschool writing activities that make learning fun. To be ready for kindergarten, your child needs to know how to cut and paste, copy simple shapes, trace vertical and horizontal lines, trace his or her name, and hold crayons, pencils and scissors correctly.
When you feel your child is physically ready to write, have your child use a stick or finger to draw in sand, rice, pudding, shaving cream, paint or oatmeal. Make simple lines and shapes and ask your child to copy them. Next, let your child practice writing on a dry erase board, chalk board or Magnadoodle. Preschoolers also tend to have fun with special crayons and markers designed for use on windows and in the tub. Take care not to rush this process. Let your child move through these stages at his or her own pace.
Yes visual aids are worth more than a thousand words. Visuals may include, preschool toys and work books that contain the concept of literacy. Find preschool worksheets that introduce alphabets, sounds, numbers, counting, shapes, colors, dot to dot drawing, coloring in and cutting out activities.
It does not matter if you are a home school educator or a preschool teacher, story time is an important part of any preschool student's educational experience. Story time can be as simple as reviewing popular nursery rhymes or as extensive as a story soap opera. Depending on the preschool student's leveled abilities and/or interests, story time can include the ever popular Humpty Dumpty or the divisional break down of popular books such as The Three Little Pigs. The reading item should be chosen based on attention span and actual interest of the preschool student.
With the new school year starting soon, many parents will be concerned about school readiness and looking for ways to help their children prepare for big school. While there are many preschool worksheets available, some are more useful than others in terms of versatility. There is a lot more to school readiness that just knowing the alphabet and counting to ten.
